Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology requires elementary school teachers to improve their competence in developing innovative learning media. However, teachers at SD Islam Al-Khoiriyyah Surabaya had never received training on the use of Augmented Reality (AR) as a learning medium. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to improve teachers' knowledge and skills in developing Interactive Books based on AR using the Assemblr Edu platform. The activity employed a practice-based training approach consisting of needs analysis, lectures, demonstrations, guided practice, discussions, mentoring, and evaluation. Twelve teachers participated in the training and were evaluated using pre-test and post-test instruments. Knowledge improvement was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, while teachers' skills were evaluated through observation and documentation of the developed products. The training demonstrated a significant improvement in teachers' knowledge, as indicated by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (W = 0; Z = –3.29; p = 0.001). In addition, all participants successfully developed six AR-based Interactive Books integrated with QR Codes and ready for classroom implementation. These findings demonstrate that practice-based training effectively transforms teachers' competencies from knowledge to skills, culminating in the production of tangible learning media (product). This training model has the potential to serve as an effective teacher empowerment strategy for accelerating the adoption of digital learning technologies in elementary schools. Future community service programs should provide continuous mentoring and evaluate the long-term impact of AR-based Interactive Books on classroom practices and student learning outcomes.
