Abstract

Cocoa is a plantation crop that can generate foreign exchange and serve as a source of income for farmers. In cocoa farming, farmers face various problems in increasing cocoa production, such as pest and disease attacks and the lack of other production facilities such as fertilizers for land fertility. Community service activities aim to provide knowledge and skills to farmers on controlling cocoa pests and diseases and developing organic fertilizers made from cocoa pod waste. The community service program was implemented in Sejahtera Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. The implementation of the PKM scheme community service used training and technology demonstration methods, followed by mentoring activities. The results of the implementation showed that the application of cocoa pest and disease control technology and the development of organic fertilizers made from cocoa pod waste went well, attended by 20 members of the partner farmer group. Participants' knowledge increased by 80 percent after participating in the activity and farmers' skills increased by 50%. The application of pest control technology in the form of young fruit sheathing can reduce attacks by cocoa pod borer pests and cocoa pod rot disease, so it is recommended that pest and disease control by young fruit sheathing be implemented simultaneously by members of the farmer group. Through community service, it is hoped that farmers can disseminate the technology they have received to be applied to other farmers in Sejahtera Village, Palolo District.
