Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance data analysis competencies based on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) among faculty members of the Faculty of Psychology at Hang Tuah University of Surabaya (UHT). The program was conducted by a team from the Department of Statistics at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, with 17 faculty members participating. The program was designed in three interconnected phases: an introduction to SEM theoretical concepts, demonstrations and hands-on practice using IBM AMOS software, and a session to strengthen competencies in the context of writing scientific articles for publication in indexed journals. A pre-test and post-test comparison confirmed the program's effectiveness, revealing a statistically significant mean score improvement of 25.88 points (p < 0,05). The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ understanding of SEM concepts, particularly regarding confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), interpretation of model fit indices, and model modification strategies based on theoretical justification. A total of 76.4% of participants expressed concrete plans to apply SEM in their research within the next six months, and 52.9% expressed interest in participating in further mentoring related to scientific manuscript writing. This program also had an institutional impact by strengthening the accreditation status of academic programs through enhanced faculty publication capacity. The inter-university collaboration fostered during this initiative serves as an effective model of synergy in strengthening the national research ecosystem.
