Abstract

This community service activity aims to strengthen Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based ecoliteracy among students at SMAN 1 Kota Batu through training and mentoring in writing scientific papers on environmental topics. The program was motivated by the still-low level of student and teacher skills in utilizing AI to support environmental literacy and scientific writing, despite the school's strong commitment to environmental education through the Adiwiyata program. The implementation method used a participatory and educational approach consisting of four stages: outreach and pretests, training and workshops, technology implementation, and mentoring and evaluation. The training focused on introducing basic AI concepts, using AI-based scientific writing platforms, and utilizing research tools such as Publish or Perish, Vosviewer, and automatic citation applications. The results showed that students experienced increased understanding and skills in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology as a tool for compiling scientific papers and supporting the strengthening of ecoliteracy.  This improvement is reflected in the evaluation results, with the average participant score increasing from 58.4 in the pretest to 84.7 in the posttest. Furthermore, this activity also enhanced students' motivation, critical thinking skills, and environmental awareness through the development of drafts of scientific papers on environmental topics. This program also fosters a more productive digital literacy culture and supports the integration of AI-based ecoliteracy into school learning activities.
